New Beginnings for 2009

How to Approach Healthy Eating the Right Way . . .  Helen Luczak recently spoke at the London Dowser's Meeting held at Unity of London. She discussed  the "alternative side" to what everyone's hearing on TV these days on the hot topic of saving grocery dollars. In our zeal to save money on food in the short-term, are we sacrificing our health in the long term? By gaining an understanding of the basic principles of holistic nutrition and applying them in the context of what you are wanting and willing to create, one can easily achieve feeling better on a healthier diet without breaking the bank. Click here for the handout Diet, Lifestyle and Nutrition for Optimal Health.

This is the spring cleansing season, so what are you doing to improve your digestive and lymphatic systems? Many people embark on a program to get a series of three colonics done; do either a kidney or liver cleanse; tackle parasites or candida, etc. At the Centre for Healthy Living, we can advise you as to which types of cleanses are beneficial. Download the articles on the right to get some guidance. The first two article on Lymphatic Drainage refers to two awesome products that we endorse. These days, so many people have digestive or hormonal system imbalances and this is making eating properly so much more important. Many are not recognized for what they are, like constipation or thyroid challenges. Did you know the two can be linked? Auto-intoxication challenges the thyroid and produces fatigue as one of the symptoms that can easily go undetected.  Dr. Joseph Mercola's article How to Diagnose Underactive Thyroid talks about thyroid inhibitors and natural approaches to correct thyroid conditions, particularly the often undiagnosed underactive thyroid. Weight gain, depression, hair loss, cold extremities, falling asleep when you sit down to rest ... these are all signs of low thyroid function. Find out about Flouride and what this poison does to the body in Dr. Mercola's latest newsletter, click here.

Dr. Peter D'Adamo talks about Blood Type O & A as statistically having more thyroid problems. With Type O, it's both hyper and hypo-active thyroid and for Type A, it's mainly underactive thyroid. There is a link with the food lectins that damage the colon as one biochemical factor. Undigested food lectins (a protein found in every food which can alter blood chemistry in a negative fashion) is typically found in grains, beans, legumes and dairy products. There are about seven Red Flag Avoid Foods that are especially problematic.

If interested in learning about the Blood Type Diet to know how to get started as well as learn how to make some scrumptious meals, please send us an email as new classes are being formed for the summer. The Spelt Tortilla Cooking Demo class will be held Thursday, June 11th and the next session is planned for August 16th.  Please call 519 680-2884 or email us if you'd like to receive an registration form via email.

When conducting an Eyology Assessment, Helen often sees stress and congestion lines in the sclera's thyroid quadrant. In more serious situations, the red sclera line can develop into a very long wavy line connecting one gland to another, such as the Pituitary-Thyroid Fatigue line or the Thyroid-Adrenal Connection. Knowing how to correct hormonal imbalances requires a multi-facet approach. It's good to get an understanding as to the emotions linked to glandular problems -- for information on that topic, consult Dr. Christian Northrup, holistic medical doctor who is often a guest on the Oprah Show. At the Centre for Healthy Living, we sell Dr. Northrop's Wisdom of Menopause book which is an excellent resource for understanding how breast or uterine cancer, fibroids, etc. develop in terms of what could be going on in a woman's life during peri-menopause and menopause.

When people have a lot of digestive system weaknesses, often there is an imbalance of parasites or opportunistic candida and viruses which are the culprit. One way of determining which parasite elimination program to embark upon is having a WISE Analysis. The first step is completing the WISE Questionnaire using a scale of 0-5 to rate various symptoms. Once completed, the answers will be put into a data base to produce a summary report with graphs and charts. The information gleaned will identify nutritional deficiencies and health symptoms linked to specific diseases or conditions, eg. heavy metals or auto-immune conditions, etc.

Whether certain vitamins and minerals are being sufficiently provided in the diet is of paramount importance. Information on what could have led to a deficiency plus solutions in terms of what to do about it will all be detailed in the comprehensive report that WISE can generate. For instance, let's say hypoglycemia was highlighted. Our reference library offers this explanation for the onset of hypoglycemia: "the cause could be parasite or candida-related; there's likely too little protein in the diet; and probably an adrenal/thyroid connection."

Furthermore, it's recommended that fried or refined foods, sugar, alcohol, caffeine and nicotine be eliminated and that smaller meals be eaten frequently; that protein accompanies carbs; a good stress management program be adopted; seasonal cleanses are done; and green drinks; glandulars; essential fatty acids; zinc; and Vitamins B and C are all part of one's supplementation program.
